If a certain page on a website doesn't load for some reason or in case a link is not working, the visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page will have nothing in common with the rest of the website, that could make the visitor leave your site. A potential solution in this case is a function offered by some web hosting providers - the option to set up your own personalized error pages that shall have identical style and design as your site and which could contain any images or text you want depending on the specific error. There are four standard errors that could occur and they involve these particular so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it can't be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see some web page, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a specific page; and 404, if a link which you've clicked leads to a file which does not exist. In any of these cases, visitors will be able to see your personalized content rather than a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Shared Web Hosting
You can set up custom error pages for any of your domains or subdomains. The function is supported by all shared web hosting plans that we offer, so when you log in to your Hepsia Control Panel and visit the Hosted Domains section, you can click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that"ll show up, you can choose the kind of error page which should appear - a default one from our system, a conventional Apache server page or a custom one. For the latter option, you'll have to specify the URL to the page, so when you use custom made pages, you must upload the files inside your web hosting account first. One other way is to use an .htaccess file placed inside the domain or subdomain folder with a line for every error type. The precise syntax can be seen in our Knowledge Base, so that you can use this function even if you don't have any previous experience.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting
When you host your websites in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you may set custom made error pages for each of them effortlessly using our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP. With a few clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you can modify the default setting from a system page to a personalized one for each of the 4 error types. All you should do is provide a link to each file which you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you'll be able to revert this modification at any time and in exactly the same way. If you would like, you may use an .htaccess file too. It has to be created/uploaded within the domain or subdomain folder belonging to the website whose error pages you want to alter and the content for this kind of file can be found in our Help article about this matter.
